Special Olympics International (SOI) based in Washington D.C. is the worldwide ruling body for the Special Olympics organisation.

Board of Trustees and Chairman of Development Committee - Special Olympics Great Britain

One of Intevo’s Directors has just been appointed to the Board of Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) as well as maintaining an ongoing role as Chairman of SOGB Development Committee.

SOGB has set out strategic goals for the coming four years to 2012 (covering all aspects of the SOGB: organisation & management, development programme, events and games, marketing & communications, people, fundraising

As a Board member responsibilities include legal obligations to:

• Ensure that the charity complies with the: rules and objective of its governing documents; charity law; legislation and other regulations
• Ensure that the charity is and will remain solvent

The Development Committee supports SOGB in achieving its goals through development of a sports programme, where a key initial focus is upon fundraising to support implementation of the other goals. Appointed to the Development Committee by Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia, the ongoing role involves:

• To ‘lead’ the SOGB DevCom on a ‘day to day’ basis
• To facilitate the DevCom developing the objectives for the group
• To liaise with the SOGB Board, CEO and fundraising manager
• To ensure necessary DevCom are taken and documentation is in place

Knowledge Transfer Post Games Analysis

Following the highly successful 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin (for which an Intevo Director worked as the assistant Director of Medical Services), Special Olympics International (SOI) requested the production of a post Games analysis report.

The assignment delivered three detailed reports to SOI focussed on Medical Services:

• quantitative statistical analysis report of medical incidents (trauma/injury and medical/illness) and operations of the 2003 and previous World Games
• comprehensive detailed post games report on medical services of the 2003 Games including analysis and recommendations of pre-games planning & implementation, games operations and post-games consolidation
• written report and analysis of issues and recommendations associated with the contractual obligations of the 2003 World Summer Games.

Technical Manual, Worldwide Guide

Author & Project Manager

Following the highly successful 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin (for which an Intevo Director worked as the assistant Director of Medical Services), Special Olympics International requested the production of a technical manual covering Medical Support Functions Guide: the guide has subsequently become the reference document for all games worldwide including World Games, Regional Games and National Games.

This operational guide covered all operational aspects of the design, implementation and management of Medical Services at a Special Olympics:

• System of Care
• management structure and communications
• human resource requirements
• medical supplies and waste management
• medical records and documentation
• signage
• medical transport.
